For instance, psychiatrists are specialized in addressing the mental problems of the patients.

Nurse Informaticists collaborate with these specialists to understand the gaps in mental health delivery and develop customized solutions to address these needs. For instance, at the beginning of the Covid 19 pandemic, healthcare organizations encountered challenges in providing effective healthcare mainly due to the newness of the virus. There was limited information regarding the virus, including its effect on the patients, ways of transmission, and the most appropriate treatment methods. In this regard, nursing informaticists fetched data from different healthcare databases but needed to collaborate with other specialists to improve healthcare delivery.

Additionally, while our organization addressed several Covid 19 patients, nurse informaticists collaborated with other specialists to improve patient performance. Through effective communication, specialists consulted nurse informaticists to understand the patient’s condition.  Nurse informaticists helped decode available data, providing insights into the patient’s condition, including the disease’s stage and the risk factors that can worsen the condition. Nonetheless, the specialists used the information provided by the nurse Informaticists to offer the proper treatment to patients, reducing errors and improving the patient’s quality of life.

Moreover, nursing informaticists interact with specialists daily. This occurs from when a patient is admitted to the facility to when they are discharged. Upon reporting to the facility, the patient is enrolled in the e-records and waits in line to see the specialists. In the cases where the patient has been to the facility recurrently, especially for clinics, they have their records saved in the electronic health records. Nonetheless, patients with diabetes and blood pressure have their sugar levels, BMI, and blood pressure monitored before seeing a specialist. These results are automatically saved in the patient’s health records for easier retrieval from the specialist’s side.

Based on this data, the clinician determines the most appropriate treatment and recommends medication, further diagnosis, or admission to receive more up-close care. In admission, the nurses rely on the patient’s health records to ensure they provide effective patient care. From these instances, it is clear that the operations of nurse informaticists and other specialists in healthcare organizations are interdependent. Therefore, there is a need to implement effective strategies to improve these interactions, achieving the desired health outcomes.

One of the strategies that can help improve the collaboration between these professionals is to focus on technology (Ng et al., 2018). With the advancement of technology, our organization has taken the initiative to adopt and integrate technology to ease operations. The technology could also improve collaborations between different professionals to enhance effective and timely communication (Ng et al., 2018). In this regard, nurse informaticists could incorporate technology to enable patient data automation, where the diagnosis findings could be sent to the respective specialists. Data automation would save time used in retrieving patient data, enhancing performance (Ng et al., 2018). It would also be effective in saving lives by eliminating delays. Automating the whole healthcare delivery process from admission to discharge and effective data transmission to different departments will ease operations, improving the organizational performance.

Over the years, nursing informatics has evolved, increasing the job roles of the nurse Informaticists. According to Sipes (2016), nursing informatics has advanced from 21 competencies to 168 essential competencies. Some of these skills include administration, leadership, and management, which have been incorporated in education and training programs (Mosier et al., 2019). This evolution has enhanced collaboration, improving healthcare delivery and patient care while reducing healthcare costs.

To sum up, nurse informaticists have increased knowledge and skills on leadership, which helps them initiate interactions effectively.
